Original exposed brick, restored architectural details, and large streetside windows fill the loft with warmth and natural light while celebrating the history of one of Independence's landmark downtown buildings. Whether you're in town for a family visit, a wedding, a sporting event, business travel, or simply exploring Northeast Iowa, the Imperial offers plenty of room to relax after a day of adventure. Located above Gedney Bakery & Coffeehouse, guests can enjoy fresh pastries, coffee, and grab-and-go breakfast or lunch options just downstairs. One of our favorite features is the shared rooftop deck, where you can enjoy your morning coffee, unwind in the evening, or take in views of historic downtown with glimpses of the Wapsipinicon River. Historic Gedney Quarters is located on the second floor of a historic downtown building and does not have an elevator. Guests must climb stairs to access the suites. There are approximately 25 steps from the street entrance and 37 steps from the rear parking lot entrance. Due to the stairs, the property may not be suitable for guests with mobility limitations or those unable to comfortably carry luggage up a flight of stairs. The property includes multiple stairways and elevated outdoor areas. As a result, the property may not be suitable for young children, and children must be closely supervised at all times.
